Chettinad Restaurant
This proposal reimagines the storied architectural vernacular of Chettinad for a contemporary culinary experience in Pondicherry. The design bridges the gap between historical opulence and modern spatial clarity.
- Cultural Anchors: The use of traditional Athangudi tiles, reclaimed teakwood pillars, and lime-plastered walls to evoke the grand courtyards of Karaikudi.
- Contextual Adaptation: A lighter, more ventilated layout that acknowledges Pondicherry’s coastal climate and French-influenced urban fabric.
- Craft & Detail: Strategically placed brass accents and woven rattan textures that offer a tactile, “frugal-luxury” aesthetic.
- Sensory Atmosphere: A curated play of light and shadow, designed to enhance the warmth of the spices and the intimacy of communal dining.
